City Chamber Choir
City Chamber Choir aims to revive neglected choral works from past ages, to search out the best in 20th century composition, and to plot musical pathways for the present century.
The choir is led by its hugely experienced founder, **Stephen Jones**, with guidance from its President, renowned composer **Cecilia McDowall**, and receives infusions of new music from up-and-coming ‘composers in residence’. Repertoire encompasses Byrd, Palestrina, Howells, and popular Christmas carols, but ranges far and wide, with a special emphasis on British music.
Formed in 1987 and comprising singers from many walks of life, the choir meets for rehearsals a stone’s throw from St Paul’s cathedral. The venue, St Anne and St Agnes church, also known as the Gresham Centre, was designed by Christopher Wren, has been rebuilt many times, and is itself an inspiration. Concerts are performed there and in many more of the City of London’s beautiful Wren churches, with occasional forays further afield in the UK and in Europe.
The recipient of six PRS Choral Enterprise Awards, the choir made premier recordings at the invitation of the British Music Society, reached the semi-finals of the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year competition, and produced three CDs. Highlights of the last few years include running very popular annual choral workshops in Sussex, performing the music for *Love the Sinner* (a National Theatre production) and singing with the English National Ballet and Orchestra in St Paul’s Cathedral for the City of London Festival.
The musical journey continues with exciting plans for the 30th anniversary season, including an invitation to sing in The Netherlands. For further details on all the choir’s activities please visit the [CCC website](http://www.citychamberchoir.org.uk).
